The Women Scientist Fellows Committee is hosting the Inaugural Women Scientist Fellows Networking Event on Thursday, August 24 from 8:00–10:00 a.m. on the Bethesda campus, Building 35, in the Orange Skybox (center of the 1st Floor). Fellows of all levels (postbac, graduate, postdoc, research, and clinical) are welcome! The committee is looking for new members and wants to hear ideas and learn the needs of fellows. There will be some refreshments.

The Fellows Safety Committee will be holding an open house to celebrate International Biosafety and Biocontainment Month on Wednesday, October 25 at 4–5p.m. in Building 35A, Floor 1 Skybox 1G600 and Zoom. Come join us and put yourself in the shoes of “Professor Piper Patricia Erlenmeyer,” or Dr. PPE for short, and her postdoc “Dr. Steve Owen Pascal,” aka Dr. SOP, and see if you can make it through the day by assessing and dodging safety risks in the lab. FSC would love for you all to come celebrate with us by completing a choose your own adventure safety odyssey. Recreation & Welfare and Health and Wellness Council Liaison (1 position)
Are you interested in getting more involved in health and wellness programs available at NIH? The NIH Fellows Committee is seeking a liaison to the NIH Recreation and Welfare Committee and Health and Wellness Council, which is an employee-service organization that provides affordable, top-quality and well-directed services and programs that are diversified, beneficial, and focused on enhancing the health and well-being of the NIH staff, patients, their families, and the NIH communities.
Duties for the R&W Liaison:
- Participate in the NIH Health and Wellness Council meeting.
- Share and provide ideas on improving several facets of the institute’s health agenda.
- Help in planning and advertising health-related and/or recreational events to the NIH trainees. This can include joint FelCom/R&W events such as the annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event (October).
- Participate in the planning of NIH-wide recreation activities such as annual NIH Institute Relay, Take a Hike Day, and the Farmers Market every Tuesday in front of the Building 10 South Entrance.
- Update FelCom members monthly of any health-related events and information at monthly meetings.

Health & Recreation Subcommittee Co-Chairs (2 positions)
The Health & Recreation Committee of FelCom is currently seeking co-chairs. The goal of the Health & Recreation subcommittee is to promote health and well-being among the postdoctoral fellow community with programming centered around fitness, self-care, and health habits. Members of the subcommittee plan wellness initiatives, manage activity groups and recreational activities (such as running club, yoga, and others), and contribute articles centered around health in NIH circulating publications.

We are pleased to invite you to a special screening of Ava DuVernay's documentary “13th” on July 26, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in Room 2C19, Building 31. As scientists and health care providers, it is crucial for us to discuss and understand the history of incarceration and policing and their implications for public health. This event will include a post-screening discussion where we can explore these issues in depth and their impact on our work and society. Please note that the room accommodates only 25 people, so if you are interested to attend in-person, please register soon with this Google Form (and let us know if you cannot make it so we can open this event to someone else).
