Letter to the Fellows: November 2024

Dear fellows,

2024 has been an amazing year for the Office of Education (OE)! With Dr. Megan Bohn joining the team as our new DIR training director, we are quickly expanding our programs and spending more time with you one-on-one. Don’t be a stranger—we’re always available for career and professional school advising and we would love to hear your ideas for workshops and seminars!

One of the OE’s big accomplishments this year was the 19th Annual Fellows’ Retreat. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Bohn, as well as the 2024 Retreat Planning Committee, for spearheading a wonderful event! As the former training director, this was the first year in many that I had the pleasure of enjoying the retreat from your perspective in the audience. What a treat it was to mingle with all of you and hear all the talks. I especially appreciated the diversity of topics presented by our invited speakers, and I was impressed by our lineup of fellows’ presentations. You should all be extremely proud of your scientific accomplishments. Finally, I’d like to emphasize the impressive presentation skills I observed—truly captivating storytelling and beautiful visual aids. Very nice work, everyone!

As much as I’ve always loved working with the DIR fellows’ community, I must admit that I’ve never before been quite this excited for what’s to come. Our team continues to grow as Dr. Sally Chang, Bioinformatics Training Program Manager, designs brand new training content for the DIR community. Keep your fingers on the pulse as 2025 approaches!

Yours,

Erin Walsh, Ph.D.
Deputy Scientific Director for Science Management
